The Best Film Of 2018

John Krasinski & Emily Blunt in ‘A Quiet Place’ (2018)

“If they hear you, they hunt you.”

I didn’t see many new films in 2018, but from those which I did, the one that stood out the most was A Quiet Place.

Synopsis: In a post-apocalyptic world, a family have to live in silence, as the land is inhabited by blind ‘monsters’ with an acute sense of hearing. If they make any noise, they risk death, making even the simplest of tasks a daily struggle.

The film didn’t initially appeal to me, not being a fan of the horror genre – although some would say it’s more of a drama/thriller. I ended up seeing the film almost completely blind, not even having seen the trailer.

I was so impressed with both the story and the acting. The plot is refreshingly original, and for a film with very little dialogue, the emotive acting from all on screen is captivating.

I have been a fan of Emily Blunt for many years, having first seen her in The Devil Wears Prada in 2006. John Krasinski I had heard of in relation to the US version of The Office, but I had never seen any of his work previously. Krasinski directed, co-wrote and starred in A Quiet Place, showcasing his multiple talents.

I cannot recommend this excellent film highly enough! Trailer:

  1. I liked this movie, and I liked how much they were able to accomplish with silence. I thought the sound engineering was clever. It’s a good premise for a film, and it didn’t disappoint.
