Film Costumes: ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ (2008)

Photo taken September 2017

On a recent visit to Penshurst Place in Kent, I was pleased to see three costumes from 2008s The Other Boleyn Girl on display.

Penshurst Place & Gardens were used as a filming location for The Other Boleyn Girl, aswell as for BBCs Wolf Hall and Anne of the Thousand Days, in addition to many other productions.

Below are the outfits worn by two ladies-in-waiting and a male courtier in the film;

The Other Boleyn Girl (2008), director: Justin Chadwick.

Starring: Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Eric Bana, Kristin Scott Thomas, Mark Rylance, David Morrissey, Jim Sturgess, Eddie Redmayne, Juno Temple, Benedict Cumberbatch and Andrew Garfield (deleted scenes).

  1. I felt the film was a strong indictment of the way nubile young girls are bartered for honour. The performances by Natalie and Johanson were appropriate. Of course the costumes were finely tuned to the ostentatious era.

  2. Appearances have always held sway over populace and the costumes reflect the surface riches of this morally bankrupt world.
