Katharine Hepburn’s four Best Actress Oscars for ‘Morning Glory’ 1933, ‘Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner’ 1967, ‘The Lion In Winter’ 1968 & ‘On Golden Pond’ 1981

Read ‘Favourite Best Picture Winner By Decade’ here.

There have been 89 films which have won Best Picture at the Academy Awards, from a total of 537 nominees.

Below is a list of all Best Picture winners from the first ceremony in May 1929, until the recent February 2017 ceremony, where the wrong winner was announced by Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway… Awkward.

  1. Ally L. Mare says:

I think I watched less than you. If I were to choose one from the list, I’d go for Braveheart. I’m quite surprised you haven’t watch The Godfather or Rocky yet.

  2. Jack Flacco says:

I don’t know if it’s good or not, but I’ve seen 55 of the films on the list. Yes, I’m a recovering movie addict! 🙂

  3. Oh boy, I have only watched 5 from that list! Oo
    – The Sound of Music
    – Schindler’s List
    – Forrest Gump
    – Titanic
    – 12 Years a Slave

  4. The Vern says:

I have seen about 53 from this list so far. Still have not seen Gone With The Wind and really have no desire too. I know I should get on that eventually

I decided to back and count after reading the comments and came up with 63! Since I’m nearly 62 that seems easily appropriate~ some surprise me that i missed them. some i’m surprised you have missed! i remember THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH was very emotional for me and I am surprised that DOCTOR ZHIVAGO isn’t on this list! And, YOU CAN”T TAKE IT WITH YOU and IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT are both in my permanent dvd collection. It is nice you can take your time catching up on this list and that movies are being kept and saved and made available.

  6. Caz says:

I’m up to 40! I also have a Best Picture Project as a constant running feature on my blog. Where I look to catch up not only with the winners but the films that have been nominated as well.
