‘Practical Magic’ (1998) & The Moon

Last night (7th February) a large circle could be seen around the moon (image). This is known as a 22° halo, and appears when the moonlight is refracted on ice crystals in the atmosphere.

This reminded me of a scene from 90s rom-com Practical Magic, staring Sandra Bullock as Sally, and Nicole Kidman as Gillian – sisters who are both witches. A curse on their family means that any man they fall in love with is doomed to die. As Gillian is away traveling, Sally writes to her from their hometown;

“And the moon tonight, there’s a circle around it; a sign of trouble not far behind.”

Is trouble coming for you? #practicalmagic
