41 Days Apart: Queen Elizabeth & Marilyn Monroe

Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was born on 21st April 1926 in London. Norma Jeane Mortenson was born on 1st June 1926 in Los Angeles.

Queen Elizabeth is 41 days older than Marilyn Monroe. As we have recently passed Elizabeth’s 90th birthday, and what would have been Marilyn’s 90th, we can wonder if, as a 90 year old, would Marilyn in 2016 hold any comparison to the Queen?

These two different types of royalty – a Royal Queen and a Queen of American Cinema – briefly met during a line up on 29th October 1956, for the Royal Film Performance of The Battle of the River Plate. Elizabeth had been Queen for five years at this time, whilst Marilyn was in London filming The Prince and the Showgirl with Laurence Olivier.

Would anyone else really like to know what they said to each other?
