    My mother, Benedicta Leigh, was at RADA at the same time as Robert Shaw. I don’t think they took to each other particularly! Peter Barkworth, also in the same year, advised Shaw to give up, as did Cy Endfield, the director of ‘Zulu’. The school’s teachers described him as a ‘personality’ rather than a talented actor by his final term but this, as John French and Richard Dreyfuss write in ‘Robert Shaw: The Price of Success’, probably says more about RADA than Shaw.
