Earlier in the year, I was very pleased to find out that I had won a copy of Judi Dench: Behind the Scenes. This is my brief (albeit, slightly late) review of the book.
The book is an updated and expanded edition of the first photograph book published in 2005. Since then, we has seen Dame Judi play M in three more James Bond films, star in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and the sequel, be directed by Clint Eastwood in J. Edgar, and receive critical acclaim for her role in Philomena.
This book is a must have for any fans of Dame Judi, or film and theatre itself, as you get a great insight into her career and the people she has worked alongside since the 1950s. We also get a glimpse into her personal life with her family. Each photograph is accompanied by a description, which gives the reader a great amount of background and context.
Aswell as being a national treasure and an Academy Award winner, this book explores the very creative and varied career of a great actress, all in a personal manor. A comment on the book from Dame Judi herself; “Looking back at these pictures brings back many happy memories of some of the most rewarding experiences of my life, as well as of so many people who have been important to me in different ways.”
Thank you to One Room With A View for the book.
